A Story About Me
When I was younger, I worked as an apparel designer for several high street stores including M&S, Asda and Mothercare. I understand how to create professional presentations and liaise with suppliers. Through this work I travelled the globe working with factories to bring my designs to life. I also ran my own design studio so I understand the demands a small business can bring. In both contexts I took away positive experiences, received great feedback from colleagues and managers and enjoyed delivering great results.
Fourteen years ago, I added teaching to my skillset and completed an art and design PCET teaching course. I currently work as textiles tutor in the adult learning sector alongside my freelance design work. I specialise in working with adults with learning disabilities, or those suffering with poor mental health. I enjoy building bridges into learning for adults who find learning provisions hard to reach. I am passionate about how the creative arts can reduce stress and anxiety, build self-esteem, and foster social connection.
As well as delivering workshops I enjoy creating my own textile design work. I also volunteer for Marie Curie at the Newcastle Hospice facilitating our ever-growing craft group.
The mediums I work with are proggy, crochet, macrame, wet and dry felting, needle punch, embroidery and patchwork and quilting. Where my work is very much embedded in the North East landscape.
